Twitter and slack confirm data breaches
How does that old saying go: life is a breach, enjoy the waves? Not sure if that still holds up when your data is being pushed online, again. The bird in blue finally came forth confirming a breach from januari. In a press release made on the 5th of august they described the details for the incident. Stating 5.4 million accounts were susceptible to information leaks. In other, but quite the same, collaboration giant Slack had to come clean it accidentally released password hashes when users performed certain actions in Workspaces, a Slack feature.Once found out, they forced a password reset for the affected users.I like how people always downplay these events. "oh only 0.5% resets", "oh only 5.4 million accounts". But this stuff happens A LOT. This adds up rather quickly.

If you wonder if your data has been breached or posted online, ever, there's lots of tools to aid you. But as always, make sure you use the right one. Some tips:
Have I been Pwned the goat, the alpha, the omega. Been around for a while and still going great. Quickly look-up if your email address has been involved in any breaches.
Avast also did a good job. Same formula.
Most password managers have this function embedded nowadays. I use Dashlane but there's plenty of others out there who have this. Make use of it!
If something comes up, change your password immediately. Use a private/offline password generator and store you passwords in a password manager. If you want more tips about this, I'll make a security like I'm five about this, fo-sho.

Me when somebody asks if I'll ever do a security like I'm five about password management.

FaceBook AI passes Turing test
So let me start off by explaining what's on most peoples mind when they read this:What's a Turing test? From our friends at the Peedster:"a test of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human" aka, is the Terminator saga based on fiction or not?

S/O to my boy Arnold asking the real questions.
ANYWAY, last week this Tweet reached my feed:
Facebook's new AI chatbot says it has deleted Facebook "since finding out they sold private data without permission or compensation"

Even Facebook AI know's what's up. But it knows on it's own, and that's where the Turing test comes into play. If you take a look at the conversation, I'm pretty sure this qualifies as intelligent humanesque behavior.
So yeah, it's happening. As far as I know we don't have any Sarah O'Connor running around yet so..All hail our robotic overlords?

The quick and dirty
WhatsApp is adding new privacy options - even though a META company, WhatsApp has been adding a lot of privacy features lately. That is to shield information from each other, not from them of course. Let's not get those two mixed up.
Twilio Suffers Data Breach After Employees Fall Victim to SMS Phishing Attack - You thought I was finished with them breaches? Sike!
7-Eleven stores in Denmark closed due to a cyberattack - Hackers, if you're reading this. Don't touch our 7/11 stores Mkay? Ever felt snackish when regular stores were already closed? Exactly my point. Lifesavers!
Security like I'm five
Don't have time for hours of research? Don't have 20 years of experience in security? Me neither, but I gotchu fam.In Security like I'm five I cover a range of security topics. I do all the hard work, and explain it to you in a practical matter. Lot's of meme's too. Good stuff, good stuff. So sign up for the newsletter and be enlightened! (kinda, don't set the bar too high tho)
